My parents have been great at pushing me when I was young. That is a large factor in what forged my determination. However, many people have not been pushed in a similar manner and can lack drive. If you are reading this post, you want to be a driven person and you are asking: “how can I find my drive?” Now you can move to the second step after asking yourself “how can I find my drive?” you need to ask yourself some new questions.

What Do I Do Most And Why?

If you do not have any passions to drive you, you must be an incredibly boring person. You have passions that drive you, you just probably have them deep down inside. The wrong question to ask is “what are my passions?” you need to ask “what do I do most and why?”

If you work a 9 to 5 job, the two things you do the most is probably work and sleep. Now why do you work? Is it mostly for the paycheck? If the answer is yes, it is not your passion.

Now what about the third thing you do the most? Do you enjoy doing it, if you do, why? Is it just relaxing? Chances are it is not just relaxing. If all you needed to do is relax, sleep would definitely be the thing you do the most. Therefore, there’s some other reason you do it. Some quality about the third thing you do the most makes it the reason you do it the most. Now what is it? Chances are that quality is a passion you did not know you had.

If you have a fourth, fifth, and sixth common thing you do the same questions applies. Why do you do this? What is the secret passion behind it? As for the seventh and less common things you do, only the first 6 matter and they are the only things that can be considered passions. Remember, you must prioritize, if you do not spend much time on your passion, it is not your passion.

What Do I Want The Most?

Now, write down your greatest priorities. Do they match up with what you focus most of your time on? Chances are they do not match perfectly. Do you not want what you think you want? Is it even possible to want something you don’t put effort in? There are many philosophies about wants and effort so instead of arguing the philosophy, I will present the next question you should ask yourself.

Why Do My Priorities And My Schedule Not Match?

There are probably many reasons your priorities do not match with what you want. You may need to relax more, or you may feel like your priorities do not matter. The most common reason tends to be that you do not believe you can be a driven person and you are sabotaging yourself.

Final Thoughts

If you are asking “how can I find my drive?” you are asking the wrong question. You already know what it is that could bring out the best in you. However, what you may not know is that there are many things you are doing to keep you from getting there, mostly yourself. You may be wasting time on what is not bringing out your best or may not have set your priorities. You may not have people to make sure you try to be your best. If you want drive, you need to work on these areas instead of purely asking yourself what drives you.

Drive turns you from a person into a super-powered being that can make your life what you want and inspire people. This drive is the greatest tool to forge your wealth. However, finding your drive is the easy part. That is why this post was short and simple. Keeping it is the hard part. I will write about keeping your drive in a future post.

Most of my life I was careful with money and learned where I should invest it. I was very lucky to have parents who taught me financial literacy when I was young. Unfortunately, I am very lucky because many people lack the financial literacy I know. The purpose of Forge Your Wealth is to teach people who are just starting out in life how to obtain their wealth or anyone who just realized they may need to learn more to handle their finances. I currently have a PhD in biochemistry, just started a job in industry (will not disclose where exactly for personal and professional reasons) and am currently married to the love of my life. I am one of the lucky few people in America who graduated with no student debts, my wife was not. Over the series of a little over 3 years we paid for our wedding with no debt and paid off her federal student loans.
